Physical Description Julia stands above average height, yet her slender, fair-complexioned frame leave her spryness and relative indifference to hard exertion as the most overt hints of the fitness bestowed by her alpine upbringing. The greater prevalence of cosmetics in her early career’s cosmopolitan surroundings drew her in and cultivated her knack for minimalist accentuation, which compliments her girlish aesthetic. Her uniforms and most other clothing are gently tailored, she keeps her long hair simply arrayed, and she doesn’t bear any tattoos.

The primacy of the German language in her childhood manifests in her speech’s staccato rhythm and mildly distinctive pronunciation elements.

Family

Personality & Traits

General Overview Polite yet reserved at first meeting, Julia opens up as a supportive presence once she acclimatizes to someone. A smile for them in passing. Framing a conversation with facets of their life gleaned through past conversations. A brief diversion in her routine to commemorate a milestone of theirs. There’s admittedly an element of self-service in those and other, similar gestures she extends in that she wants to be accepted and liked, but those are hopes rather than conditions for her kindness. Despite choosing to leave her home, one of her greatest satisfactions remains fostering community.
Strengths & Weaknesses + Observant: Julia’s eye for detail is the primary medium of her intellect. She learns best by doing – a major part of her piloting skill – and develops vivid familiarity with her colleagues and environment. Minute aspects of either can lend her insights that etch into her memory.

+ Supportive: One outlet for them is tending to those in need of attention. . .or giving space to those who don’t. Reflecting on her own life has taught her that genuinely caring for others requires acting with consideration for their autonomy and boundaries.

+ Enthusiastic & Hardworking: Julia’s time in Starfleet has deepened her belief in its mission, offsetting her lack of a personal vision with a work ethic that demands more leadership than management.

+/- Humble: Her unassuming nature bolsters her personal and professional esteem among peers but also limits her visibility to some seniors. She’s disinclined to put herself forth, finding the associated recognition-seeking abhorrent.

- Self-care: Between staying attuned to her surroundings and others, Julia can be slow to recognize her own need for support and reluctant to ask even after she does. She avoids confrontations for similar reasons, even with her own needs at stake.

- Sensitive: Sharp critiques or disagreements still tend to register as attacks because she fully invests herself in all she does. This is especially true if she lacks a measure of the challenger and/or is accused of negligence.
Ambitions Julia has become more intentional with her career development in recent years yet still lacks a specific vision for her future. Starfleet has satisfied her drive to explore with little input, leaving her largely content to focus on contributing to her shipmates’ safety and well-being.

Seeing couples and families prods her romantic and maternal desires, however, both are ultimately subdued by the pain of estranging from her parents and their stonewalling her efforts to reconcile.
Hobbies & Interests Archery, trekking, gliding, cooking, social gatherings

Personal History Julia was born in 2269 in an Austrian alpine preserve on Earth to innkeeper parents who raised her to succeed them in their community. Yet the spacefarers among their guests roused her imagination, and it gradually overran her youthful complaisance. Flight’s facilitation of their adventures sparked her fascination with it the regular sight of gliders and sailplanes overhead fueled into adolescence. Her parents eventually gave in, satisfied with the close proximity of flight schools while certain the academic demands would curb her enthusiasm given her modest performance in general studies.

She sacrificed her home obligations to become one of the best young pilots in the region instead, which they tolerated until she began mentioning an organization they opposed: Starfleet. Active members and prospects had always been among their guests but also comprised some of her gliding colleagues. Distance from her parents’ oversight and the dwindling gap to enlistment age fostered relationships with them that incited her realization of wanting experiences like those she’d been regaled with up to then for herself.

Julia’s parents responded with an ultimatum she chose to defy, unable to bear their stifling any longer. With help from various Starfleet alumni she’d met over the years, she began preparing for the Academy exams, gaining acceptance in 2288. She chose to major in Flight Control, confident that she could transition her terrestrial piloting skills to spaceflight.

Contrary to the field’s stereotype, she was humble and collaborative, inciting her classmates and instructors to help her graduate in the second quartile of the 2292 class. Some of her colleagues balked on her behalf at her subsequent assignment to USS Santorini despite its newness because it was a fleet tender rather than a frontline ship. Nevertheless, Julia grew to harbor pride in its criticality in maintaining Starfleet's infrastructure, endeavors that also provided adventure and challenge in surprising measure. . .
